Serbia is one of the few countries that allows you to open up a bank account as a tourist!  With many banks in Serbia you merely need to show them your “White Card” (see police registration) and they will give a bank account complete with IBAN and SWIFT codes to receive international money transfers in currencies such as the US Dollar and the Euro.

Unfortunately, with these accounts it is not possible to get a debit card and all withdrawals must be made in person at the bank by the account holder.

Want to transfer money from abroad into your Serbian account with the smallest possible fees? We recommend the international money transfer service Transferwise to do this.  With fees as small as 0.4%, you can save a lot of money vs. using your debit card in an ATM.
